“Death and life are in the power of the tongue; And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”
Proverbs 18:21 ASV
Recently, I spent the day with someone and I noticed that she took the time to point out the negative aspects of so many things throughout the day. Political issues, social issues, relationship issues. I don’t even think that she was conscious of it but it set an underlying negative tone for everyone that day. I mean, ok, we get it, Debby Downer (😫🥴). It’s easy to want to dismiss people like her but the spirit in me said, aht aht, learn from it.
Sometimes we focus on the negative because we feel that it keeps us “safe”. Our hopes won’t get too high if we keep the worst possible outcomes in mind. Other times, we may feel a way about ourselves or certain areas of our lives and we use negativity to try to deflect from our own insecurities or fears.
Well, it’s a good day to take our power back with positivity and faith in God’s plans for us. When we allow ourselves the vulnerability of positivity, we move out of our own way and give God space to do His thing! Yes, things may not work out the way we want them to but when we put our faith in God, listen to the Holy Spirit in us and align our actions with God’s plans we can breathe easier because we know that whatever is going on is a part of God’s process for us and He is making our paths straight.
So this week, let’s smile more, compliment more, be more grateful, see the silver linings in our trials. Let’s tell our problems how big our God is instead of the other way around. And no, not everything is perfect or even good all the time. It’s ok to feel our feelings and remember that God willingly takes our burdens when we cast our cares upon Him because HE LOVES US.
Don’t let fear block the power of your optimism, sensitivity and vulnerability. Tap in.
